Belarus in the Eurasian Economic Union
Type de matériel :

A founding member of the customs union that became the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2015, Belarus has been a pillar of Russian reintegration projects for the countries that used to belong to the USSR. However, this country’s participation in the EAEU should be analyzed against the backdrop of its privileged, but complicated, bilateral relations with Russia. Minsk supports Eurasian integration insofar as this does not destabilize the status quo resulting from two decades of negotiations with Moscow. For a long time, Russian subsidies have contributed to the survival of both the Belarusian economy and Lukashenko’s regime. The current economic recession in both countries and the cooling of their relations are threats to the EAEU’s future.
