Using the french employee survey on “Organisational Change and Computerisation” ( coi) in 1997 and post-investigation by interview we analyse the collective dimension of work in industry. The quantitative section analyses teamworkers’ characteristics according to their professional situations. It shows the correlation of teamwork with qualifications and specifies its characteristics (extent, duration, reward...). It compares “collective” and “individual” workers in connection with their work evaluation, uses of quality norms, rhythms of work, control and autonomy. The qualitative section focuses on co-operation practices and on how employees perceive changes. Co-operation depends on the socio-professional positions but also on the dispositions and trajectories of individuals, on the autonomy of teams and their compliance with moral rules generating the team spirit. A typology of co-operation shows its variability between the “teamworkers”, the “mediators” or the “leaders”. Classification JEL : L60, J20, J81, O33, Z13
