Screen media and African diasporas in France: From the issue of the representation to the challenges of production
Type de matériel :

This text provides a review of the existing studies about the presence of African Diasporas on French screens published over the last twenty years, with a particular emphasis on works that focus on screen media entertainment (TV shows, films, series). It is based on the combined consideration of three different approaches: content analysis (dominant in the research published to date), the study of reception practices by members of black minorities, and the study of the place of these groups in the production process. The question of the media representation of black minorities remains relevant today, and one of the objectives of this research is to create the space for the emergence of new research orientations capable of refining our understanding of the historical and political specificities of the French context in relation to these issues, based on an in-depth knowledge of the strengths and limits of already existing research.
