The research analyzes the effect of national CSR labels on HRM practices in a developing country, namely Morocco. The qualitative study shows that the “national” character of the CSR label plays a role in companies’ adherence to the label. However, although companies express a support towards socially responsible HRM (HRM-SR), at the same time they display a desire to instrumentalize CSR by negotiating or manipulating certain HRM-SR requirements. In addition, the emphasis placed by companies on respect for labor law calls into question the sincerity of their CSR approach.
