Best practices and business excellence. Analysis of a Mexican exporting SME

The commercial excellence of a small Mexican footwear exporting company, which has existed for more than eight decades, is analized. The methodology is mixed. In the quantitative phase, a survey based on the European Excellence Model (EFQM) was applied. The qualitative phase consisted of semi-structured interviews. In the results, the company obtained 855 points on the EFQM scale (1,000 points). The best evaluated criteria are: people performance (92.78%), partnerships-resources (92.64%), and policy and strategy (90.33%); and the least evaluated criteria are: company performance (74.42%) and people (74.83%). It is concluded that this company is excellent and that the case is relevant to evaluate better business practices, replicating the methodology in similar SMEs in Latin America.
