Large-scale retailing and the resilience of small businesses in emerging countries: the case of Morocco
Type de matériel :
33
Despite a remarkable development of large scale retailing in Morocco since the early 2000s, traditional forms of retailing continues to dominate the market. This original situation can largely be explained by the existence of forms of complementarity and a real status quo between the two players (in a growing market). However, a number of ongoing developments, and in particular the strategic shifts made by large retailers, are likely to break the precarious balance existing to date. As a consequence, it is not sure that the small local retailer will continue to thrive without accepting major changes in both its offer and its target.
