Characteristics of bank governance in Morocco: a state of the art

This article analyzes the characteristics of banks board with reference to the legal and regulatory provisions of bank governance in Morocco. The sample consists of 10 main Moroccan banks including seven banks with majority Moroccan shareholding and three other banks with majority French shareholding. Data is observed at the end of 2020 i.e. 6 years after the introduction of these new regulatory texts. Our results highlight a significant evolution in the characteristics of the boards of these banks. However, some elements which are recommended by the major international standards of good governance practices present disparities.
