Vulnerability is understood in several ways. A transversal and permanent meaning is that of exposure to injury, to risk, and to threat. Interviews with members of a solidarity network of pregnant women in Kinshasa allow us to identify various forms of vulnerability experienced by these women, as well as the possibility of finding there a space of resilience. After defining the term vulnerability and explaining the context of the solidarity network, this article shares the results of the interviews and indicates the levels of vulnerability as expressed by the network’s members. The analysis shows that vulnerability, first experienced as a lack of money and the precarious situation of women in the Congo, can gradually become a source of empowerment for the establishment of a solidarity network.
