Is transhumanism a form of gnosis?

Even though transhumanists rarely describe themselves as Gnostics, this term is often attributed to them by their critics but is rarely explained, as if the relationship were obvious. Is it that obvious? To respond to this question, it is important to define the term “Gnosis”, which we will do with reference to the philosopher Hans Jonas. These clarifications will enable us to discuss two transhumanist ideas that evoke Gnosticism: the rejection of the body and the concept of singularity. This analysis will show that, if it is correct to view transhumanism in religious terms, it is difficult to view the movement as a form of Gnosis. Another hypothesis will be outlined in conclusion: transhumanism could be a form of neo-Joachism.
