Restorative justice: A path of resilience for perpetrators and victims of acts of pedophilia
Type de matériel :

The author, a criminologist who has practiced restorative justice in the aftermath of serious crimes in Côte d’Ivoire and Canada, wonders if this method might represent a path of resilience for the perpetrators and victims of acts of pedophilia. After describing the situation of the actors (discomfort of some, denial of others, involvement of the community) and showing the limits of criminal justice, the author details the process of restorative justice, using the example of meetings between incarcerated perpetrators and victims of incest. Facilitating communication between victims, perpetrators, and the community, this approach can help to foster the healing of victims and a deeper awareness on the part of perpetrators. In an appendix, the results of three case studies are presented.
