This article considers the transferability of the concept of human dignity to the nonhuman environment. On the basis of concrete developments in international politics, it may be seen that the anthropocentrism of the order of human rights in the protection of creation is both a curse and a blessing. On the one hand, this order can be seen as reflective of a speciesist narrowing of the concept of dignity. On the other hand, the interdependence of human rights and environmental protection in political terms proves to be a precondition that makes possible a more effective protection of creation.
