A religious education perspective

Human rights education in an interreligious context is linked to the processes of individual development, following the pedagogical principles of subject orientation, self-determination, co-determination, and solidarity. As education for human rights, by human rights and for human rights, human rights education proves its potential when the central foundations of coexistence are tested for their viability. The historical link between human rights and the rupture of civilisation gives human rights education a specific dynamic that seeks to promote a necessary reclaiming of places in issues of co-existence and the foundations of the state (rule of law). Interreligious and intercultural dialogue thus offers the possibility to discuss critically and constructively central human rights issues such as freedom of expression and religion as well as social and economic security.
