Freedom of conscience, religion, and expression in the Alsatian school system

The article examines the question of education for freedom of conscience, religion, and expression in Alsatian schools through a praxeological analysis of the new method of religious education called ’Cultural and Religious Awakening’ and of the formation for laïcité at the Institut national supérieur du professoriat et de l’education of the Academy of Strasbourg. The didactics and pedagogy of this method of religious education are shown to complement the education of young citizens in fundamental human rights. The historical knowledge of religious realities will make it possible to surpass a simple application of the laws relating to laïcité in the schools.
