Faced with the contradiction between the clear affirmation of human rights in the teaching of the Catholic Church and their challenging implementation within the same Church, Pope Francis develops the notion of a culture of encounter based on social friendship, which is the subject of the encyclical Fratelli tutti. The relational process thus initiated in charity is not exclusively concerned with the field of politics, but concerns the Church itself, both in the relations between each of its members and in its institutional structure. Using the category of the dream, the pope seeks in the imaginary and the field of representations the roots of a conversion from fraternity to social friendship which is realised within the Christian community unified in charity and of which synodality is the internal way of operating of the Church.
