The Impact of Remote Consultations on Medical Practices: Toward a New Medical Profession?

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2011. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Telemedicine is promoted in France as a response to current issues related to medical demography, population ageing, and equal access to health care. In addition to the technical, ethical and financial problems it generates, telemedicine has an impact on health care organisation and medical practices. An observation of remote consultations performed between a geriatric and a university hospital, via a telepresence system, enabled researchers to study the effects of telemedicine on professional practices and on relations between healthcare operators. It reveals, notably, that implementing, developing and using this type of system require new skills, which could be those of a “co-ordinating telemedicine doctor”.
