The collaborative spirit at the service of an economic model: The case of wage portage companies

This article, based on doctoral research focusing on the mechanism of wage portage, demonstrates how for-profit wage portage companies reclaim the arguments and practices related to those in the field of the collaborative economy and place them in the context of service to their economic model. Formally close to business and employment cooperatives, since they both participate in the legal development of entrepreneur-employees, these companies take advantage of the vagueness surrounding the notions of cooperation and collaboration to draw on a repertoire of justification that highlights the social utility of their activity, while organizing the blurring of three types of borders: the separation between salaried work and self-employment; between work with social and for profit aims; and that between paid work and free work.
