— The National Consultative Commission of Human Rights (CNCDH) and the establishment of the new French Protection of Rights Body (Défenseur des droits) — Given its mission of protecting and promoting human rights, it was only natural for the National Consultative Commission of Human Rights to be interested in the setting up of the new French Protection of Rights Body, le Défenseur des droits. After examining the draft constitutional law, it expressed its main concerns to the Prime Minister in a short letter dated 20th of May 2008. Then, after a detailed examination of the entire draft fundamental law, it delivered two successive opinions on 4th February and 30th September 2010. Although it does acknowledge the symbolic value and the authority given to the Défenseur des droits through the constitution, it criticised the methods used and expressed serious reservations concerning the substance.
