— The main challenges of the French Ombudsman — This article gives a testimony about the first weeks of activities of the Défenseur des droits, the French Ombudsman. From an inside view, it indicates what the newly established body needs to undertake as to its organisation, its administration and its legal activities. Besides, the Défenseur des droits is by now the only non jurisdictional body in charge of the defence of the rights of the citizens in France. This raises many challenges at political and institutional levels.
