Entrance examinations are necessary for French public sector employment. Subject to numerous legal principles, the organization and conduct of the examinations implies adherence to the rules of law, under the watchful eye of the administrative jurisdiction. The modernization of public service entrance examinations, linked to the development of the sector and its recruitment methods, results in an adaptation of the tests and the rules applicable to them. Although sometimes severely challenged, the entrance examination remains the best recruitment tool for entering public service.
