Based on a qualitative survey, conducted in France among professionals from different pharmaceutical companies, we describe the manner in which various collectives adapted to the risks of drug shortages. The supply of drugs is governed by complex systems of action held in an uncertain and fragile balance. In a context of limited economic resources, how do individuals, with plural representations and values, agree on common actions while retaining their share of freedom? We postulate that a relationship ethics is paramount. It governs the necessary transformation of a collective in crisis situations, through a process of cooperation that produces creative solutions. These solutions allowed the various collectives to adapt together to the problems encountered to ensure the availability of drugs for patients.
