This article analyses the link between innovative organizational practices and responsible patient care in the field of psychiatric health in France. As responsible care requires the mobilization of organizational and social skills, in addition to medical and technical ones, we pay attention to the management methods used in this kind of organizations. The aim is to identify the levers of management that enable the promotion of responsible treatment adapted to the specific needs of each patient considered as a “global” person, i.e. whose needs go beyond the targeted medical response provided in a segmented manner by specialists and institutions. The exploratory survey used in this article concerns an organization dedicated to young patients suffering from schizophrenia. Our analysis is based on innovation management and strategic planning theories. The results of our survey highlight the levers and constraints of responsible management in innovative mental health organizations in France.
