As solutions are sought to prevent food waste, platforms with a social purpose are emerging to recover and redistribute unsold food. Using a qualitative study of two platforms, we analyze their intermediation logistics role. This study highlights the challenges of sustainability and paradoxical tensions. Sustainability paradoxes are generated by numerous factors, including the difficulty of optimizing logistics resources and reducing polluting emissions, discrepancy among expectations in terms of job creation, sustained connecting of actors, and the levels of operational involvement or remuneration.
