In this paper, we study the practice of translation in school in its broadest sense, and propose that it be understood as a long-term collective task involving working on problems related to specific cultural practices and how we represent our comprehension. Our research falls within the framework of the Joint Action Theory in Didactics, in an anthropological approach to describing practices. We first present some theoretical aspects of this issue, and then our conception of culture and language, for school, for didactics. We study two examples of classroom practices. At the end of our paper, we propose a general discussion on translation and comprehension in school, and on culture and language.
