The author considers psychic birth as an experience that takes place in the analytic situation. The nature of psychic birth is considered in relation to the different aspects of the analytic situation. The author describes the inter-connection between phantasies, interpretation and the analytic framework in terms of their integration within the analytic relation and process. The formation of the Self in so far as the latter is a grain of thought in danger of dissolution is considered in terms of the patient's manner of situating himself in analysis.
