An historical survey is made of dermatological doctrines to show that they are still present in contemporary thought and condition to a large extent the present-day care of patients. Successively, hippocratical humoralism, clinical dermatological practice, clinical work in the global sense, microbiology and other paraclincal sciences have applied their principles to skin disorders. It is even possible to imagine dermatology without dermatologists at the risk of depriving the patients concerned from having access to efficient knowledge.
