Work on the End of Treatment and Management Neurosis

The end of treatment does not always subscribe to specific rules regarding the patient's state or the handling of treatment. A satisfactory end can mask subsequent problems. A rather too pressing interpretative regime or indeed one that is simply centred on neurotic aspects can lead to a difficult outcome not to say its avoidance. A brutal obliteration of certain aspects of splitting or else a reinforcement of character traits can also come about. The author proposes an outcome that is centred on the two pivotal moments of the threat of castration. The article concludes with a plea in favour of a degree of inconclusiveness, that is to say, a permanence of the internal analytic object.
