This article explores the affinities as well as the differences found in the theorisations of Winnicott and Ferenczi, as well as Winnicott’s denial of filiation. It tries to examine the possible links between the disorganisation of the ideal instances and the superego, and what Ferenczi called, “the organic decomposition”, by linking them so as to differentiate them to the notions of breakdown in Winnicott and that of somatic disorganisation.
