They have major implications for the metapsychological modelling proposed, especially for psychic processes considered as belonging either to determinism or to uncertainty. The imperative of the code in its most highly developed expression, that is language, thus has the primordial function of presenting a counterweight to the extinctive regressivity of the drive.
