Can the notion of the “labor of the negative” be applied to transference? Beyond recognized forms of negative transference, the author proposes to follow the unconscious transposition onto the psychoanalyst amid the vicissitudes of the hollow, the blank, the contrary, and destruction—negativity in all of its forms. This introduces the possibility of escaping from an overly “positive” conception of transference so as to broach different aspects of transference in limit states.
