The allergic object relation (Marty) marks anxiety’s failure in the face of the stranger (Spitz), creating a tension between what the author calls “the need to defuse” (which comes from the inclusion of the stranger in the dyad) and the “need to conserve fusion” (which is present in the essential allergy). Regression in sleep and in the sexual act (orgasm) nonetheless bears the trace of the fusion of beginnings (Ferenczi), and is distinctive to the human.
