The psychosomatics of the asthmatic child is a thread of work that Gérard Szwec pursued in the course of his own conceptions. Based on Spitz’s idea of the “pre-object,” he described a mode of allergy-asthmatic defense whose overflow is characterized by the asthma attack. The notions of the inadequacy of primary repression, the absence of anxiety in the face of the stranger, and the incompleteness of the regression-fixation chain are all drawn upon.
