Disorganization, depersonnalisation, reality fading

The disorganization of the psychic functioning is perceived psychically and physically by impressions of depersonalization, of reality fading, linked to a disruption of the libidinal economy. This may be linked to an increased excitation, as in traumatic states, or to a narcissistic offense that reshuffles the balance of investments, bringing impressions of depersonalization that are more discreet than those of traumatic states or those linked to the loss of an object. These moments of intense depersonalization lead the ego to find an urgent focus of reorganization in the investment of a support or a behavior. This is the case, for example, in melancholy, where the subject focuses on the shadow of the lost object, in hypochondria, in a state of passion, or in the affirmation of a neo-identity in a mythomaniacal way. This may involve over-investment in physical activities that allow a dissipation of the libidinal excitation according to the model of self-calming procedures.
