Hysteria is not only oedipal. Analysis can bring to light regressive moments in which the body, affect and the traumatic invade the analytic space. The elaboration of such moments requires the analyst to adopt a countertransference position that oscillates between a primary identification with transference experiences and a "thirdizing" resumption that supports the symbolizing process.
