The financial crisis that began in 2008 raises some questions. Can psychoanalysis shed a particular light on this domain? This is certainly the wager made by the author. Although it may not be possible to transpose lessons drawn from the treatment directly, it is certainly productive to identify the unconscious foundations of financial theories. Neo-liberalism, a dominant trend in recent years, is based on the denial of any drive-related element in economic exchanges. This doctrine can be analyzed as a money fetishism that seeks to spread, by means of valuation, to all social activities. Partly inspired by his knowledge of psychoanalysis, John Maynard Keynes' criticisms of free-market liberalism are acquiring new topical relevance.
