The Female Labor Supply in Households: A Comparison of France and Japan (1992–2007)
Type de matériel :
79
An analysis of the female labor supply in France and Japan is conducted over the period 1992–2007 from comparable employment surveys. The labor supply of Japanese women is more dependent on the spouse’s employment and income situation than that of French women, even if this dependency tends to weaken during the period. Several reforms regarding family policy and labor market deregulation implemented in the 1990s gradually contributed to bringing the activities and behaviors of Japanese women closer to those of French ones, albeit with strong tensions.
