Pierre Bourdieu reflected on the link between capitalism and precapitalism, analyzing the economic field and the economic habitus as the results of a historical process. This article proposes to examine this evolution through the study of the Dauphiné business community during the eighteenth century. We study the relationship between merchants and monarchical regulations, in order to understand the appearance of new social structures that led to the autonomization of economic activities.
