Using three clinical examples, the author indicates the function of the archaic in the session. Drawing support from the bodily origin of unconscious fantasy and the perenniality of a primitive sensibility, she examines the upsurge of these traces, genuine traumatic attractors reactivated in the analytic situation that manifest for purposes of transformation in a new emotional experience with the analyst. The emotion aroused by intimacy in the object relationship becomes the guarantor of the emergence of deep affect.
