Based on her reading of Daniel Mendelsohn’s Disparus, the author proposes to consider war in the light of jealousy and fraternal hatred. At the meeting points between the individual and the collective, she takes account of intimacy and jealousy on the one hand, and the danger of mixtures on the other, the two themes coming together through their shared implications. The two themes are supported by biblical stories, the story of Cain and Abel and of the Flood respectively .
