Caricature and the laughter of incongruity
Type de matériel :

Drawing, in particular, on Baudelaire’s analyses of laughter and caricature, the author shows that distortion and excess on one side, and mockery and belittlement on the other, are at the root of the comical. It is the caricature’s “essence of laughter,” its subversive and even transgressive nature, that explains both its critical capacity and the (political and social) mistrust that it inspires.
