Interpretation and the Analytical Encounter
Type de matériel :

The analytical encounter is always based on the interpretive process. The process starts from the linking up in the analyst’s preconscious of a representation of a group of words uttered by the patient with that of another group of words previously uttered. From this linkage an image is born in the analyst’s mind from which he can draw a construction. This construction becomes an interpretation if he chooses to communicate it to the patient. The analyst knows that his interpretation is correct if he is surprised by the associations offered by the patient in response to it and if they enrich his construction.
