In examining the manifestations of impatience in the analyst, the author begins by evoking the pertinence of its expression with adolescents : various forms of what is described as a “consistent ” presence of the analyst may be used to justify the shaping, for subjectivizing purposes, of pubertal excitation that is always liable to change into symptoms of impatience. the analyst’s excitation in listening to adults is then looked at in terms of trajectories which, going against the paths of transferential assignation and trapped by impatience, serve the demands of the ego and its sufficient “consistency”. Finally, the cathexis of unbinding, of that which is strange and of masochism are considered as ways of circumventing impatience.
