The author criticises the conception of sublimation developed by Giuseppe Civitarese because it completely abandons any reference to the sexual drive, relating it instead to aesthetic experience and the “drive for truth”. He proposes a theory of sublimation based on the perspective that he has developed according to which the sexual drive is comprised of two components: mastery and satisfaction. The component of mastery is the agent of the sublimatory displacement.
