The article looks at the specificity of the child musician among model children. A powerful inaugural wish precedes the advent of the great musician. In the form of a dream that is seen as premonitory or of an ardent desire, it finds an echo in the model child who will take possession of it and give it flesh. Through the trajectories of some great musicians we can discern the intersection lines between parental aspiration and the future emerging artist. It is in this sort of encounter between the desiring parent and the model child that the early intuition of a destiny to be accomplished will take shape. The instinctual forces are striving towards the same aim, directed towards an ambition in which they can converge It is an endless quest for the lost object that turns out to be at the heart of the self-realising prophecy. The perpetual flight of the object, which is always ungraspable, is what is at stake. It animates the sacred fire and the unshakeable parental presumption of a destiny that awaits the model child is its prelude. Its anchoring in the child’s flesh is what permits its expression. Music, by its very nature, gives it the power to incarnate itself.
