Resisting translation, containing it or refusing it amounts to leaning towards that which is undifferentiated, and this may be a protective measure. The differentiated and undifferentiated are thus combined in an attempt to cope with the danger of bright light. In addition, indifference and undifferentiated are closely related. Indifference implies little or very little feeling in oneself and/or the other. Indifference leads towards the undifferentiated and disappearance. But the undifferentiated is a way of not translating, of not elucidating, and above all of not being erased. The undifferentiated may appear as an attempt to avoid disappearing. Non-indifference belongs to the intimate sphere, which is based, surely, on a sufficient degree of untranslated elements. The refusal to translate or the disinclination to translate are linked to the preservation of an element of blurredness. And contrary to what one might think, the blurredness saves the contours. This zone of impreciseness protects against the cut, the detachment of brutal separation. The distancing of translation could make room for dreams, for the unknown on which we draw support. If meaning is in the gaps and is itself full of gaps, it is perhaps important not to hurry translation. Translation is situated at the limit of what is hallucinated.
