Fraternal relations are too often identified in analysis with the displacements of primary objects on to the siblings, without taking into account the specificity of these object relations. Yet horizontal relations have their own place and can be found in transferences that deny the asymmetry of the situation.Through the analysis of Elodie, the possible transitions between horizontal incest and vertical incest, retranslated in the analysis by the evolution from a horizontal transference to a vertical transference, are explored. After the appearance of recollections of sexual games pointing to the realization of sister/sister incestuous desires, the discovery of incest between the father and the sister turns the landscape upside down and makes it possible to elaborate Elodie’s jealousy towards her sister in place of the hateful envy that had prevailed previously. The interpretation of the transference preceded the movement, highlighting initially the furious challenge to the asymmetry of the setting, then the possible displacement on to a mother who had hitherto been ignored.
