Noting the apparent inevitability and frequency of spatial metaphors in psychoanalytic writings, the authors examine the rationale and vicissitudes of these metaphors. They study the characteristics of psychic space, of the analytic place, and of their interaction with an emphasis on potential space and acting out. Starting from the concept of primal seduction, they propose that of ethical seduction; they introduce the notion of enigmethical messages which take up and go beyond enigmatic messages. This results in the concept of matricial place which they explain within the framework of a metapsychology that takes into account the sexual and the infinite. The theoretical-practical aspects of analysis in Israel, in its socio-political-cultural context, are illustrated by several clinical cases. Finally, they put forward the notion of Makom, a space for the construction of hetero-spatiality (and hetero-temporality), in which the spatio-temporal dimension is overtaken by those of ethics and infinity.
