The story I am presenting to you is based on my ethical concern regarding our duty not to deprive a child of the possibility of an analytical process taking place. This presupposes the presence of an analyst who is there voluntarily, and expects to be used as such. Listening and countertransference elaboration in Maël’s treatment made it possible to sustain the hope generated and to deploy a preverbal transference. By placing myself “as closely as possible” to her level of expression and understanding, a sonic weaving resulted in a transformation of impulses into affects and the creation of a transitional space.
