One of the most widespread explanation to describe the relationship between users and officials in Africa and, therefore, the specific forms of the State on this continent, is the existence of a common set of practices and representations shared by those two groups. By exploring the potential misunderstandings in this relationship, this article shades this explanation. It aims to understand what those potential wrong notes and the various ways to prevent them tell us about what representing the state means.
