Using a multi-scale and multi-method approach, this article explores the idea of a geographically dual Front National (FN) electorate. This duality does not refer solely to differing sociological characteristics in the northern and southern regions of France, but also to periurban zones throughout the country that express support for the FN despite being radically different in composition and demographics. This article highlights that while periurban zones are largely favourable to the FN, they are far from forming a homogeneous entity. The reasons for voting for the FN in these various spaces can be radically different, and at times even contradictory.
