Latent theories of listening

Theorization, manifest or latent, is an integral part of the analyst’s thinking, whether it is in a secondary or pictorial form or whether it is preoccupied with logical coherence or infiltrated by the infantile. Like the other contents of memory, its elements are reshaped by formal regression in the course of the analyst’s thought processes. Its contents are mobilized within the analyst’s internal conflictuality, as denial is lifted in the treatment. A few moments of this mobilization in a treatment illustrate these processes.
